 I’m a little Monkey
 Contact : Rosana Houthuesen

August 11, 2014

The idea is to make the monkey go up and down the ladder and the child collects a small reward/treat each time the task is completed.

Cut out and paste the pieces onto the background, then you are ready..
Holding the picture up in front of the student, the parent moves the monkey up the ladder one rung at a time for each finger placement on the violin fingerboard.

Suggested treats could be; raisins, chocolate drops or similar to be eaten after the practice session. Home-made tokens could be collected towards a larger reward some time in the future perhaps.

Suitable for ages approx 4 – 6

Thank you to Marilyn O’Boyle (I believe) for the I’m a little Monkey poem, which Suzuki teachers around the world have used for many years.

 The Rocket Launcher
 Contact : Rosana Houthuesen

August 11, 2014

This can be used when good foundations have been laid and the teacher says the child is ready to play the whole of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Any of the Twinkle variations or the ‘theme’ can be played.

The idea is to ‘launch’ the rocket as many times as possible. As the child plays each note the parent moves the rocket up the launcher. The child puts a star or ‘space’ sticker on the back-ground whenever the rocket reaches the planet at the top, creating a wonderful visual reminder of their achievement.

Puzzle tune - Song of the Wind

August 11, 2014

Cut out the puzzle pieces, play each section according to the finger numbers on the back and watch your tune grow!

Two of the early book one pieces, seen in puzzle form like this can help children with memorisation and practicing small sections, a very useful skill for later learning.

Suitable for ages approx 5-8

 Suzuki Violin ’Tasks’ Wheel
 Contact : Rosana Houthuesen

August 11, 2014

The Tasks wheel adds another element of skill building and surprise when used in conjunction with the Suzuki Violin Book One Review Wheel or the Suzuki Violin Book Two Review House.

Combinations of skills and pieces being played or listened to will make review practice that much more interesting and enjoyable.

Suitable for ages approx 4-9

Suzuki Violin Book One Review Wheel
 Contact : Rosana Houthuesen

August 11, 2014

The Book One Review Wheel is is a new spin on the popular ‘lucky-dip’. Use a dice to move the window around the allotted number of spaces and play (or listen, see below) to the piece revealed.

When used in conjunction with the Task Wheel another element of surprise and skill building is added, but the Suzuki Violin book one review wheel can be used separately.

It is not necessary that the child is able to play all the pieces, as often this can be a good opportunity to listen to a particular piece, follow the notes in the music book, do the bowing ‘in the air’ or another activity such as those on the Task Wheel.

Suitable for ages approx 5-8 or when well into Suzuki violin book one.
